PDFs are great for sharing but painful for editing. Extracting the text lets you quote from reports and research papers, reuse content from old documents that only exist as scans, make document text searchable, and convert printed forms into editable text. Students use it for study notes, office workers for data entry from scanned invoices, and researchers for processing published papers.
For scanned PDFs, higher scan resolution means better OCR accuracy, and 300 DPI is ideal. Documents with clean, standard fonts extract almost perfectly, while handwriting and decorative fonts are harder. If your PDF has multiple columns, check the extracted text order before using it.
