Enter any two values - cost, markup %, or selling price - and the third is calculated instantly, along with your profit and margin.
Fill any two fields and the third calculates automatically. Most people use it one of two ways: enter cost + markup % to find what to charge, or enter cost + selling price to see what markup and margin you're actually earning on an existing product.
Markup measures profit against cost; margin measures it against price. They sound interchangeable but aren't: a product costing $50 and selling at $75 carries a 50% markup but only a 33.3% margin. Retailers who want a 50% margin but apply a 50% markup systematically underprice - on a $50 cost, a 50% margin actually requires a $100 price (100% markup). This calculator shows both figures side by side so the difference is always visible.
Typical ranges vary hugely by industry: groceries run 5-25% markup, clothing 100-350% ("keystone" pricing is 100%), restaurants 300%+ on food, and jewelry higher still. Your right number depends on overheads, competition, and volume - but whatever you choose, calculate it correctly.
