In the United States, 15-20% is customary for sit-down restaurant service: 15% for adequate service, 18% as a common default, and 20% or more for excellent service. Tipping norms differ around the world - some countries include service in the bill, others tip little or not at all. For deliveries, salons, and taxis, 10-20% is typical. This calculator works with any percentage and any currency.
When several people share a meal, set the number of diners and the calculator divides the total (bill plus tip) evenly. For uneven shares - where people ordered very differently - calculate each person's items separately, then apply the same tip percentage to each. Splitting the grand total keeps things simple for shared meals where everyone had roughly the same.
